A list of places to see in Valencia

Cultural

  1. Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences)
    1. A futuristic complex designed by Santiago Calatrava, featuring the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum. The science museum is quite meh 🤷 but the architecture of the city is well worth visiting, and is featured in several series and films such as "Tomorrowland", "Doctor Who", "Westworld", "The Wheel of Time", "Killing Eve", and "Mindscape".

  2. Las Torres de Quart and Las Torres de Serranos
    1. Valencia was a walled city until the 19th century, when most of the old city walls were demolished to make room for expansion. There are two places you can still see remnants of the old walls. Las Torres de Serranos are the most famous, but Las Torres de Quart are no less impressive. You can enter both and climb the walls for a view over the Turia river park.

  3. Central Market (Mercado Central)
    1. El Mercado Central, or the Central Market, is one of the largest and oldest running fresh food markets in Europe, housed in a stunning Modernist building dating back to 1914. It's a great place to go to see varied produce, and to experience the vibrant atmosphere of local vendors selling everything from fresh seafood to artisanal meats, fruits, and regional specialties. The thing to try (if you eat meat) are jamon serrano from 100% iberico pigs, but beware that the good stuff costs > 100 EUR/kilo.

  4. La Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange)
    1. A UNESCO World Heritage site showcasing Gothic architecture and Valencia's rich trading history. Valencia has a long history of silk, there are numerous silk factories in the surrounding towns, and many streets are still lined with Mullberyy trees, leaves of which were used to feed silk worms. The Valencia festival of Fallas is known for (amongst other things) the silk dresses of the Falleras.
